I like to think this collection of sculpted babies, monkey’s, clowns, lobsters, and flowers is a surrealist vision

    The Macabre Surrealist

    Vincent Minervini

I started the series Moon Babies by casting one of a kind sculptures modeled after vintage china dolls and toys. I used soft clay as the mold medium, stretching and distorting them to give each one a unique expression. Then I detailed them to look worn and weathered, adding glitter and small details as fantasy elements. I wanted the series to evoke a feeling of childlike whimsy mixed with a sense of the macabre. I like to think this collection of sculpted babies, monkey’s, clowns, lobsters, and flowers is a surrealist vision that should be looked at with the unconscious mind, as if the viewer is seeing them within a dream.
