I don’t have a clear objective before painting. I dont know what i want to express or convey through my work. The meaning of each of my paintings is not immediately apparent. The ultimate reason for my art comes from the sidden urge I have, when I see something, to paint it. There are two main motivations for me to paint: I have nothing better to do, and I enjoy the process. Whenever I finish a painting, I sit in my ratten chair, light a cigarette and feel full of self-esteem. When I first begin a painting, I plan all aspects of the artwork in my mind. After that- my mind contains no words- only the completed work. And while I work, I like to play loud music, which energizes me. I feel likea carpenter making a precise piece of furniture. I don’t understand much about art theory, but I believe that a good painting cannot be entirely expressed by words.
When you communicate with canvases year after yearm things grow inside the paintings. Each color and each stroke are the soul of every painting. Some things inside paintings are abstract and unclear- they can only be felt by the heart and soul, through your eyes. Hence, I think what to paint is not important- what is important is how to paint.
