WILLIAM TUCKER: NEW SCULPTURE @ the McKee Gallery

    by NY Arts

Tucker’s engagement in recent years with the bodily mass of the torso and head has shifted to concerns regarding the articulation of movement as a sculptural issue. The principal work, Messenger, elevates massive forms with a baroque flourish, but conceals the basic identity of the subject.

The large work in Tucker’s last show at the McKee Gallery, Pomona, was acquired by the Tate Gallery, London. His sculpture, Maia, commissioned by the City of Bilbao, will be dedicated in November, 2002 in the Abandoibarra Park, adjacent to the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum. The sculpture, eleven feet high, will be sited with large works by Eduardo Chillida, Ulrich Ruchreim and Markus Lupertz.

A selection of outdoor sculptures currently on view in Santa Barbara, California came from the major Tucker exhibition organized by the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Wakefield, England in 2001.

    Through November 30, 2002.
