Ursula Gullow’s  frontal paintings are plays — theater; and in
order to understand the paintings one must indulge in fantasy, memory,
and games. The characters are posed and appear frozen in time as the
scenery morphs and ebbs around them. The bigness and smallness of
figures, objects, and things that do not logically fit allows the eye
to roam around each painting in a pleasing manner.Looseness and
dynamicism comes through the artist’s smearing and spreading of paint
before the final edge or gesture is acheived.
