I create paintings that explore the relationship between people and
their environments. Specifically, my work addresses the trappings of
modern culture as well as our instinctive response to it. Working with
oil on panel, I portray this dynamic by producing images that do not
blatantly illustrate people in such circumstances. Instead, I prefer to
address the concepts, rather than directly referencing "real life"
situations. Through monochromatic colors and blurring, I add a level of
ambiguity that requires the viewer to focus on the possibilities
surrounding the actions of the figures within. Finally, the painted
surface is slick, resembling plastic, in order to mimic the artificial
nature of our modern world that so neatly shrouds our predicament.
