Ever since 1986, there has been a thread running through my artistic practice, that of the unending exploration of Chinese-style wisdom. I have also been trying, through complex craftwork, to purify spirit and intelligence to reach enlightenment about the essence of things. I think that “essence” is the “starting point” for creation from an artist’s soul; setting out from there, I move through the expression of materials and mediums, and return to that starting point. This is a creative path beset by temptation and traps.

I hope to make every spot in the picture absolutely clear, leaving no ambiguity whatsoever. In my eyes, black and white are closer to the essence of life, and have more power to convey life. Pure black and white create fluctuating spiritual colors, providing a broad mental field for viewers in different states of mind. The purity of the image derives from the purity of the artist’s soul; this purity is the result of complex refinement.
