Jean Cocteau (1889-1963), the multi-talented French poet, writer, critic, film director, and artist, is also remembered as the ultimate Parisian socialite connected to the glamorous of early and mid-20th century Europe. The Pompidou Center of Paris is honoring this eclectic figure through January 5th with "Jean Cocteau, Spanning the Century", a retrospective featuring work by artists who celebrated Cocteau like Man Ray, Jacques-Emile Blanche and Andy Warhol. |

There are also portraits by Cocteau of major artists, such as Picasso, Kisling and Modigliani, done in each artist’s own style to show the collaborative nature of their friendships. The exhibition hightlights over 700 drawings, photographs, paintings, collages, manuscripts, costumes, and memorabilia in addition to an anthology of his films including Le Sang d’un po�te, Orph�e, Les Enfants terribles, and La Belle and Le Rappel � l’ordre, his role in sponsoring the first Cannes Festival and discovering the talent of Fran�ois Truffaut. The exhibition raves perhaps a large quantity of work however appropriate to the nature of Cocteau’s career. |
