The Ballroom was founded in the spring of 2003 by Virginia Lebermann and Fairfax Dorn as a center for public exploration of contemporary art and culture. Vance Knowles joined the Ballroom’s staff in the summer of 2003 as the film and music director. In addition to music and film programs, the Ballroom produces two to three major exhibitions each year. Its exhibition program focuses on presenting work of national and international importance, along with emerging artists. Housed in a converted dancehall that dates to 1927, the ballroom includes two galleries totaling 4,500 square feet and a 6,000-square foot courtyard.
