Modern science challenges traditional perceptions of humanity, identity and individuality. We are now able to interfere in our physical destiny. How far are we willing or able to go? What is it that defines us in the end? Is it who we feel we are deep inside or is it how we make ourselves look like?
The main themes in my artistic work are the body, male identities and consumerism. Studies of physicality, estrangement and the obsessions of body image, the works mirror my experiences, thoughts and world view. The point of departure in my work is personal but the finished work can be found an universal study of the problems of being human. The minimalist and carefully constructed pictures contain elements that provide clues for a number of possible narratives. The expressions, postures, and gestures of the models as well as the colors and lighting of the images all contribute to the construction of meaning.
Everyday life is the most important inspiration to my work. Observing the banality of life is fascinating. I also get inspired by popular culture. I often work in experimental ways. The starting point is usually photographic material, which then evolves into an installation, a portfolio of photogravures or a video projection.
