Painting for me is all about capturing the effect of sunlight and the juxtaposition of color and tone. I want to stimulate the visual senses and therefore subject matter is merely a tool. My work is figurative (pictorial) and always starts from something to do with mood, light and color – a particular atmosphere and sense of time. Recently I have found beauty in the rustic environment, like an old shack made of rusted sheets of corrugated iron and all the colorful bits and pieces patched together. These elements give character and soul to what we find around us.
