“Organic movements” are what I always try to pursue in my performance art. Everything changes in this world: society, emotions, relationships, and countries. No one knows what happens tomorrow. But we know one thing for sure: good art does not equal best-selling art. An artist should hold up a bright hope. No matter what style it is, as long as it is made from the bottom of the artist’s heart, it is an artistic possibility. I used my body and a piece of white cloth and made several shapes. This performance was one time only, and only the audience who came that day saw it. What I was trying to present was shapes and the process where they morphed, and to convey my feelings at that moment. The video and photographs of the performance—what was documented—have actually become another piece, and are not the same as the performance itself.

Why did I only use one piece of cloth? The reason is that there is too much consumption in this world, mainly because of capitalism, which causes so much waste. As an artist, I am responsible for this as well. Using so much material to make art—is this right? This is an age of environmentalism. I should reflect on what I am doing to this world. Because I was feeling more and more conflicted about the situation, it inspired me and I thought of this project, where I created movements freewheelingly, starting with one single movement, much like a mushroom cloud.
