For the last two years Gallery Nights has been identified as the circuit that unites the best art venues of the City of Buenos Aires. It has become a classic event in the cultural agenda, which takes place the last Friday of every month, as the sun goes down. More than 70 art galleries, cultural centers, museums and antique stores open their doors in order for the public to enjoy an encounter with the most recent artistic expressions.
The circuit is organized by the Editorial Arte al Día that brings together art lovers to an original route that unites 60 art galleries, antique stores, museums and cultural centers in the areas of Retiro and Barrio Norte; where the different venues welcome the guests with music and a glass of champagne. The event is supported by several firms, among these Personal, Deutsche Bank, Chandon, La Nación, Blue 100.7, Omint, Grupo Dietrich, Hotel Sofitel, Fundación Andreani and the government of the City of Buenos Aires.
Every month there is an interview, led by Laura Batkis with an important Argentine artist organized within a cycle of interviews called “Dialogando con Artistas” (“Talking with the Artists.”) In July the interviewed artist was the painter Marino Santa María. He was quizzed about his work and his trajectory. In previous editions of Gallery Nights artists included: Clorindo Testa, Remo Bianchedi, Juan Doffo and many others. These conferences take place at the British Arts Center.
Among the art exhibitions presented in July’s Gallery Nights the most important ones include the large oil on canvas by Javier de Aubeyzon at Ro Galería de Arte, the retrospective of Ernesto Deira at Agalma Arte, an exhibition by Alfredo Londaibere at the Agustina del Campo Gallery, another by Lucrecia Orloff at the Galería Palatina and the sculpture by de Isabel de Laborde at Vasari.
At the same time, once a year, usually in the month of October, Arte al Día organizes the most important Art Circuit in Argentina. More than 100 art galleries, 30 museums and cultural centers form a circuit to host guided tours, conferences and diverse activities related to art.
This initiative was started in 2004 with the objective to bring art closer to people. The aim is that each year, more and more people visit art venues and participate in free and open activities, in order to stop regarding art as an exclusive activity that should take place only when traveling abroad. The idea is to transform the city into one big gallery during a whole week.
