• Notes for a Mesocosm

The Mesocosm is the mediating space between the Absolute and the Material, a place where the real, imaginary, and symbolic coexist. Sites become states of being, and different realities collide and cooperate. The landscape is reconfigured as an environment for a new transculture, a utopian construction, a metaphor for consciousness. These paintings are constructed from multiple sources, illusory worlds, imagination, lumpy bits of paint, the beautiful, complex, chromerotic, and grotesque; things come into being, declare themselves, deceive, enlighten, dissolve, disappear. Painting is a conceptual confection, mapping virtual worlds and personal cosmologies. It is a form of conjuring, reification, a ritual of actualization.

Baby goats, gold lame, and the dead.
Sunrise, digital crisis, rainbows into nothing.
Difficult utopias, miserable ecstasies, the problems of paradise.
So many good and beautiful things.
    The disappearance of all attributes.

Painting is a conceptual confection, mapping virtual worlds and personal cosmologies. It is a form of conjuring, reification, a ritual of actualization. Nomadic tendencies in geography, consciousness, and visual language show up as acts of translation, selection, addition, multiplication. I want the paintings to offer a grand tour through the universal multiplex, a kaleidoscope of floating worlds.
