The name Andrew Penfold is actually a pen name used to disguise the identity of an English based landscape artist and illustrator who was inspired to tackle the subject of human sexuality by a visit to Amsterdam’s Museum of Erotica in 2006. Using this alias allows Andrew to enjoy both anonymity and the freedom to work outside his more well-known subject style. In creating this series of erotic imagery he attempts to recreate the illustrative style more commonly found in eighteenth and nineteenth etchings. Each image is created using a series of felt tipped drawing pens. Image

The original drawings are then digitally scanned to produce a series of black and white prints. Each print is then individually hand colored, to produce the unique pieces of erotic art as seen here.

In creating these drawings Andrew discovered that erotica is not only about the naked body, it is about the sexual packaging, the toys and clothing that people wear to heighten their own sexuality. It is in these details that the real test of drawing ability takes place, anyone can draw a leg, but to accurately recreate the patterns and shapes created by fishnets or lace as it covers the human body is a challenge that demands both skills in drawing and those of observation. The prints on the Andrew Penfold website represent the full series of 13 erotic drawings. Since their completion, Andrew has reverted to his alter ego of landscape painter who is currently exhibiting a series of garden paintings in an English County House. However, it is an alias that could well be revisited should the drawings prove successful or should anyone wish to commission such work.
