The works of Markus Asmus were created during a dive underwater. Everything for the painting process was accurately planned and the dive was watched and filmed by a team of professional divers. The actual painting evolves spontaneously and emotionally—the colors and forms have not been chosen beforehand. Asmus has created art works in saltwater as well as in fresh-water. Important and influential components in his work are the diverse depth, characteristics, and movement of the water, along with the particular setting of the location. His aim is to combine things that ostensibly do not match, from painting and diving, to paper and water. He is connecting his favorite things through his work. Markus Asmus calls his work "Paintings in a different dimension."
