Making Friends and Influencing People – Wolfram Voelcker

The Berliner Liste takes place in an old Electricity Transformer Building in the middle of the emerging art scene in Berlin, before this building was used as the home of the Vitra Design Museum. The location is jammed with a fresh offering of works by the most interesting artists from 45 international galleries. The Berliner Liste is the place where the lively Berlin art scene meets curators, museum staff and collectors from all over the world.
In 2005 nearly 10,000 visitors came to the show. The Berliner Liste runs parallel and in cooperation to the main fair Art Forum and together they turn Berlin into the most interesting art destination in September. This year galleries come from France, Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, Austria, Norway, Swiss and Germany. The fair is keeping the cost for every gallery as low as possible, which makes more experimental and extraordinary artistic forms possible. The curators and collectors honor this approach with several museum acquisitions and invitations to international museum shows.
This year the fair will focus on video art. Galleries and the Berlin Art Academy will show the most interesting video works in a separate space in the fair building. Next year the focus will be on drawing. Foreign galleries have the opportunity to share a booth with a local based gallery. That helps to introduce the foreigners to curators and collectors and makes it easier to make new contacts such clients, artists and museum staff.
