As a child I loved art and did many drawings, colored pictures, paintings and collages. I loved to look at paintings in books and museums. My appreciation of art continued even throughout my higher education at Spring Hill College and Cumberland School of Law. In fact, my experience as a journalist and as an attorney have significantly influenced my art. I retired from my 13-year law career to raise my children and to fulfill the great desire I had to oil paint. That was fourteen years ago and I have been consistently oil painting ever since. I was privately tutored for several years by local master, Mary Alice Brucato, who taught me how to see and how to paint. Thus, I started painting in realism and life, learning every day that nature is the best teacher for an artist. I studied light, shadow, color and form. I would set up still lifes in my home and I would go outside and plein air paint landscapes. Then I began to move away from the realism to a looser form of expression.
