The main differences between curating (which I did for about 15 years and still do but now in the gallery space ) and running a gallery is sales and critical response to the shows. There have been visits from writers from ArtForum, Art Net, Art News and Arte Fuse and the gallery mailing list has added hundreds of new contacts.

The last two shows I have broken even and covered my expenses which I’m thrilled about. The benefit to a small space is that I can realistically cover my expenses and the gallery pays for itself. Hopefully in a year or two I will be making a profit if not sooner. I aimed for a viable business model for the first five years of the gallery.

Station Independent Projects has been really rewarding and fun! All the artists have been great to work, have all really considered the space and I’m very happy with the quality of the shows.

The space is a small project room really that is ideal for solo shows or small group shows and one of the benefits of a small space one has to create a very concise vision for shows as editing is required.

However, I’m eager to make a profit for my artists so that they have revenue to push their work in any direction that they envision and also the gallery can do art fairs as well as advertising in magazines etc as well.

As an artist I understand the benefit of a bit of extra cash as I have had to make decisions on the number of rolls of film or how many days in the darkroom I could afford.  I wish for all my artists prosperity so that they can pursue any and all goals for their work and I would buy all their work in a heart beaT. I truly believe in what they are doing.
