    KARNAL @ Tachi Gallery

On March 15th, Tachi Gallery presents the opening of “Karnal,” the joint exhibition of artist Phillip Thies and seasoned artist Uccello. Former WWF wrestler Phillip Thies, known to fans by his stage name Damien Demento, continues to tap into the dark character he carved out in the early 90s, but this time as artist. In the upcoming show, the two friends, from different walks of life, converge to jointly exhibit works their paintings and sculptures.

Phillip Thies grew up in Brooklyn and Staten Island and currently lives and works in Manhattan. Phil grew up in a household where art was appreciated and he began to make his own toys out of cardboard as a young child. Eventually these projects evolved into small sculptures made from found objects and slowly he developed an interest in drawing and painting.

Uccello is an Italian American born and raised in New York. He began his extensive art education with an undergraduate degree from Wagner College. He then continued to study art at Pratt Institute, The Art Students League of New York, Columbia University and Parsons The New School for Design. He has also done independent studies in Florence. This is Uccello’s first New York exhibition; his work has previously been shown in Miami. The Italian translation for Uccello is “a bird nowhere to be found.”
