The settings for my drawings are cityscapes where
the people have been removed and in some cases have been replaced with
animals. I am interested in the architecture of metropolitan areas as
well as the cultural meaning of them. The structures of cities are
intriguing and I like the way the viewer’s eye travels through the grid
and sometimes labyrinth of streets and houses. I use real cities as
references, but I rearrange them and make my own interpretations of
them. Some parts are based on memories of places and many of my
drawings deal with an ambiguous sense of time and place, where new and
old meet and where the farmstead seeps in through the cracks of modern
society. By combining unexpected elements I explore possible or
impossible scenarios and play around with ideas of what things could be
like if evolution made a slightly different turn.
