International Top NewsMuseum of the Moving Image Closing for Expansion
The
Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, Queens, will close on March 23 for a $65 million reconstruction, and will reopen in late 2009 at double the size, the New York Times reports. The back wall will be demolished, the first floor will be transformed, and the structure will have a new three-story addition. A 262-seat theater, a 71-seat screening room, an education center, expanded gallery space, and a courtyard will be added. Groundbreaking for construction is scheduled for February 27. Museum members will have access to screenings and programs in all five boroughs during the construction. (Artinfo, February 7, 2008) Read more >> Bonhams Opens Canadian Headquarters
Bonhams has announced it will open its Canadian headquarters in
Toronto, one week after the company purchased a three-story property in New York’s IBM building on Madison Ave. Jack Kerr-Wilson, president of Bonhams Canada, said the building on Hazelton Ave. in Toronto’s art center "provides Bonhams with a superb new base that will allow us to display locally sourced art and antiques as well as traveling exhibitions of work being sold elsewhere in the world by Bonhams." The first sale at the new Canadian location, which is already open to clients, will take place in May. Bonhams will also hold its first sale in Paris on February 9 and its first sale in Dubai on March 3 and March 4. (Artinfo, February 7, 2008) Read more >>
