From Cuba to Korea and Switzerland to Spain, this year’s seventh annual ArtHamptons fair—aptly titled “Escape”—will take art collectors and enthusiasts on a tour of established visual and performance artists hailing from around the globe. Among the featured artists is La Roc, one of the world’s first street artists who collaborated with Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, and the intensely colorful and frantically energetic paintings of Jean-Michel Basquiat. As a counterpoint, Jane Freilicher, and her more tranquil and quietly beautiful New York landscape paintings, will be the honored recipient of this year’s ArtHamptons Lifetime Achievement Award.
As far as performance artists go, the highlights include artists who engage the audience and draw it into their own works. Performing with You by Jayoung Chung and performance art by Tiffany Trenda are technology-driven performances that invite the audience to think about their personal relationships to art and the artist. Musician, DJ, and photographer Moby, who has produced for Daft Punk, Public Enemy, and Michael Jackson, among many others, will be the subject of an interview and discussion with a book signing to follow.
Other show highlights include professionally-led tours of the open, maze-like ArtHamptons structure. During this time curators and art experts will show visitors their favorite booths and discuss the art on display, special opening night events, and a private, invitation-only party to celebrate Hamptons magazine’s 36th anniversary. With the record-breaking revenue and attendance of the 2013 show, this year’s show is especially promising and will be running from July 11-13, with special ticket options available for those who wish to attend VIP and private events the night before.
