Edward Enfiajan: Artist Statement
According to Edward Enfiajan, Marcel Duchamp’s conception of art as a disposable item, without permanence, art without the museum surroundings has itself final come to an end. The beauty of Duchamp’s idea lies in precisely his own notion of temporality. Duchamp has been around for too long. Beauty or the "ultimate revolution’ lies in post-pop culture’s brevity and it’s short duration.
Twombley’s Summer madness had a profound impact on me. It was again a reversal of Duchamp. Although the painting was rather abstract, the title itself was so simple, natural, relevant, pure and honest. Further on, Four Seasons: he makes you realize that now you are dealing with yet another new agenda. Here I begin to better understand the most recent Jasper Johns’ paintings, and especially Seasons.
"There are two kind of appreciations, the one you like very much and the things that shock you as the new, the beautifull as never seen before"
I don’t pursue any big idea. I follow the comfortable feeling of doing something that has inner space (potential) to grow’.
