Today the fire of our civilization is still burning, illuminating the darkness and ignorance in this world with its blaze, but it cannot lighten the civilization or the shadow hidden inside the corner of its heart. The civilization is blinded by its own light, believing that it is the god who can manage the world. The light of civilization embodies the human race.
Perhaps man took the wrong way from the very beginning of creation, wanting everything done according to human needs, pursuing self-satisfaction as the goal of life. As 75 species are dying out every day, we still shamelessly invade the living space of other creatures just to fulfill our never-ending wants. Our desires encourage excessive human consumption like quenching thirst with poison regardless of any consequences. The living space of mankind continues to get worse, with the ozonosphere being severely damaged, the greenhouse effect worsening, and non-renewable resources being exhausted at an alarming rate. We must ponder upon our selfishness because it has everything to do with the status quo of the earth. We think that the quality of life equals how much resource we have, indulge ourselves in creature comfort, and ignore our spiritual growth. We take desires as the motivation for our civilization, but the entire human history is nothing but a process of fulfilling needs.
What sense does art make in this world? If it still is about expressing personal interests, then the debate about art becomes a matter of morality. I’d like my work to act as a prophecy as well as a curse on human beings’ future, foreboding our last supper.
