ImageDiana Scherer brings different layers of reality together in her photo’s: human models, fragments of photographs and ceramic models are placed in an artificial or carefully orchestrated surrounding. She does this in such a way that the photographs initially show a unified reality, but one that clearly has been manipulated. They are neither photoshop illusions nor classic photography, but layered, narrative images of a constructed reality.

The game of manipulating and directing her models is an important part of Scherer’s work. In this way she can make changes in scale or ask her models to take up unnatural poses. As the director of her images, where she pushes her models to a certain limit, she creates an atmosphere where there is always something odd, something askew, a sense of a surreal discomfort.
