    Picasso and Portinari Paintings Stolen

Thieves stole a painting by Picasso and another by Candido Portinari from the Sao Paulo Museum of Art on December 19, the Associated Press reports. Picasso’s Portrait of Suzanne Bloch was one of the museum’s most valuable pieces; Jones Bergamin, a Sao Paulo gallery director, estimated the painting’s value at about $50 million. He estimated Portinari’s O Lavrador de Cafe at at least $5 million. The thieves broke into the museum just before dawn and took only those two works. (Artinfo, December 21, 2007)
