The pictorial world of Csaba Fürjesi is on the border between real and unreal. It seems a “concrete” scene, the description of a situation, but with fine pictorial games, he is also able to detach from the simple representation. In fact, he seeks the way through which the work becomes not what appears at the beginning. He tries to effectively detach from pure description, in order to always be in a point between here and beyond.
Sometimes serene, but often cheerful, or even ironic- satiric. It is obviously not a direct humour, but an irony that impregnates the atmospheres in a hidden way. This also expands the possibilities of interpretation of the narrative content of the works. For the elaboration of classical and personal themes, the special environment created gives an added meaning, for example through the bold use of colours and their almost sharp combination. And not only the use of vivid effects, but also the elaboration of spaces without perspective helps us to imagine ourselves in a world between real and unreal.
We can learn a lot from Csaba Fürjesi. Apart from his own queries, the questions that he examine in his paintings, he also respond to the meditation of what an artwork – that initially appears “only” figurative – can be. It is indeed a meta-painting, because it investigates the power of painting through the means of the painting itself. His works are not simple reconstructions of reality, but creations of new truths.
