What inspired the idea was my exposure to music and art since a young age. I’m a DJ and when I was younger I worked with top labels such as Universal giving me access to all types of musicians. My time in art school and as a graffiti artists helped me build that natural passion for art. I wanted to combine music and art to create a multi-sensory experience, that’s when Sound Graffiti was born. Sound Graffiti is an app I designed that allows people to listen and view artwork on any device at specific points throughout New York City. |

CNNCTD+100
By Roman Grandinetti
CNNCTD+100 was exhibited for the first time in May 2012 at the New Museum using a
Playbutton device, a wearable pin that is also an MP3 player. The goal was to curate
100 artists from all disciplines to provide still image artwork along with bespoke
music. The results were amazing.
What inspired the idea was my exposure to music and art since a young age. I’m a DJ
and when I was younger I worked with top labels such as Universal giving me access
to all types of musicians. My time in art school and as a graffiti artists helped me
build that natural passion for art. I wanted to combine music and art to create a
multi-sensory experience, that’s when Sound Graffiti was born. Sound Graffiti is an
app I designed that allows people to listen and view artwork on any device at
specific points throughout New York City.
CNNCTD+100 is an extension of this – a more formal exhibition spotlighting key
artists within my New York network. Through friends, family and my amazing girl
friend Bibi Cornejo-Borthwick, a photographer, we put the whole thing together. The
second installment was featured at Scope Miami during Art Basel. This time we used
Google Nexus 7 tablets as the platform to display all the artwork. We were
approached by Scope to be one of their Featured Exhibitions, the response from the
art world was amazing.
Up next – we are releasing a newspaper documenting the experience of the show which
will roll out every month. We are now working on producing a show for LA Art Week,
SXSW and something big for New York Art Fair in March.
