My work consists of self-portraits. I love the concept of being the model, the stylist, the photographer, and the post editor. I became interested in photography in 2007 during my undergraduate study in history and English literature. My attention was drawn to photography through an online photo-sharing site. This unique medium captivated me instantly and I felt an urge to start taking photos as well. I realized that in our days, thanks to affordable high-quality digital cameras, Photoshop, and great social networks such as Flickr, one can create his/her own art, and even get global recognition, completely independent of others. Making self-portraits gives me complete control over the end result.

Making self-portraits gives me complete control over the end result. I strive to take conceptual photographs that are also appealing visually. Most of my work is personal and relates to actual events. I portray situations that I experience in my life, and in a way, go through a mental process about the subject of the image, and to note it in some tangible way. The nature of most of my photographs is melancholic. Some of the themes of my work include sadness, loneliness, and love sickness. This can be seen in self-portraits such as Don’t make me sleep alone, Drowning in loneliness, Days before you came, and Abandoned. The locations where the photos were taken and the nude form of the heroine are designed to emphasize the vulnerability and isolation.

There are works that show another side of me. For example, He is watching me was taken at a country club construction site with a security guard standing nearby watching me. I came to shoot in a swimming pool on the country club’s territory. The security guard saw me and asked if I needed help, and if I wanted perhaps to shoot in a bigger pool. Instead, I asked him if I could go inside the building. I was looking for new locations and thought it might be a great opportunity. This photograph represents the audacious part of me. A girl who on one hand feels a little bit uncomfortable by being watched, therefore hiding her face with a hand, but on the other, poses with confidence, indicating she is not intimidated by the male gaze. This photo is a symbolic representation of my photographic process. There are times when I have to shoot in public and people pass by and look at me whilst I photograph. It makes me feel embarrassed at times, but I still keep shooting.
