Boutin has received various critical accolades for his audacious, humorous work, which "succeeds in the double achievement of bringing us back to the sources of human creation and draws us into a universe without borders." Boutin has stated that despite his prestigious education he "moved quickly out of the classical paths of creation to enter the world of outsider art or what he likes to call ‘free art.’" Thus, Boutin’s work retains a playful exuberance (he often employs his own visage to a comic effect) and a brave willingness to experiment with various media. His work appears in various collections throughout Brussels, Paris, London, Beirut and The United States. He lives in Paris and Brussels.
