The appeal of Arthur Bernard’s work lies in his exuberant way of painting: movement, colour and colour contrasts are a feast for the eye and a comfort to the soul. The paintings are created spontaneously, without a preconceived plan. He works on his canvas like a choreographer. Listening to music, he paints movement with a large brush: colour over colour, colour against colour, sometimes with thinned paint that starts to drip, at other times with pasty paint.
