Art Basel Miami Beach: Art Statements
Chris Finley’s recent series of paintings was concocted from current technology, chance, and transforming virtual reality into something real, more human.
The paintings originate from downloaded digital photographs from random Internet searches. Using a graphics program, the elements within the photographs are dragged, copied, rotated, and stretched until the final image displays a monstrous image that no longer resembles their source. Finally these images are transferred to canvas in a slick fashion to mimic a computer’s palate.
Finley takes on the role of a cyborg by creating his art within the parameters of a graphic program. The result is a painting that has infused humanity into cyberspace and technology.
