Stemming out of my own search for “authentic self”, I explore human subjectivity in relation to self perception and the perception of the other. My work is a reaction to our Facebook-centric, Late Capitalist age, in which we are encouraged to participate in the commodification of our selves, where identities are carefully bought and assembled, where constant surveillance is normalized and privacy is no longer the “default” setting.  I investigate a desire to be both seen and not seen, to share and not share, to connect and not connect. Through my work, I seek to understand and express what it is to simply be human amongst the pressures that pervade postmodern Western culture.
