Lure of the Body is the continuation of my previous series, Vivid as Fruit. All the still objects, plants, and dead bodies are transformed from seafood that infuses my work with life. They seem to own soul and body. Yet, deformed by violence, these objects become dead after all. These dead objects have wounds, viruses, and bacteria, which are presented in the texture of seafood. In Vivid as Fruit, the viruses, wounds, dead objects, and abscesses are beautiful and cruel at the same time. I finally found that the festering wounds have invaded the depths of the skin. They have penetrated the body and begun to gnaw at our heart—dead objects have become some sort of spectacle in commercial society, a spectacle that has rooted in our mind.

We sadly realize what we really lost is the sense of pain.

The body in ordinary life produces cruelty and absurdity in our mind. The imaginary misery comes from nowhere. But we’re protected by awareness, which is the imaginary fear that occurs when we are faced with the unknown future. However, it is lost; it has been overwhelmed by abscesses sugarcoated as fresh fruit and amazing delicacies in the world. Seafood is the mainstream consumer product nowadays. It is difficult to keep, subject to fluctuating prices, and is considered an expensive consumption item. The series shows the distorted value of consumption. To where will our earthly pleasures lead us? And who understands destruction? I can only tell you that everything I do, I do it for love.
