    News, rumours, and protests centered on the imprisonment of artist Ai Wei Wei have been accumulating at an ever-faster rate. His wife has been questioned, his driver and accountant have disappeared, and other associates of the artist seem to be in jeopardy.

     

    News, rumours, and protests centered on the imprisonment of artist Ai Wei Wei have been accumulating at an ever-faster rate. His wife has been questioned, his driver and accountant have disappeared, and other associates of the artist seem to be in jeopardy.

    The international news media have been reporting on the disappearance of Ai Wei Wei; the spread of information (and the restriction thereof by the Chinese government) has led to protests at Chinese embassies around the world. Now the Chinese government, through its deferential Global Times newspaper, is lashing back, calling the “West’s support of Ai Weiwei abnormal.”
