It was in 2003 that I began to work on the “Beyond Satisfaction” series. By that time, a drastic societal change had taken place throughout China, one that impacted every Chinese person, and without rhyme or reason. Any previous concepts or ideas on the topics of morality, life and value systems encountered negation. Those without ideals or beliefs were led, through their panic and bewilderment, down a road to a mad chase after worldliness and fortune. The increase of material desires and the loss of moral standards seemed to make everyone a golliwog. In this comfort-chasing age, this kind of desire has become the characteristic of the people as well as the society they inhabit.
