    Growing up in North
Carolina, I grew up surrounded by the long held traditions of arts and
crafts for which my native state is very well known, yet it was an
environment also very much disinclined to more contemporary art. I have
found that I have both embraced and reacted to this environment by
creating works that are both aesthetically pleasing to the eye such as
my figure work and my landscapes, but also reacted against this to
create works that reflect my darker sense of humor.

     Though
I am mostly concentrating on perfecting the various techniques of
painting and sculpture rather than focusing on giving my work a deeper
meaning, my work still reflects who I am as a person and my personal
    interests.

The main influences that have begun to show through in my work are
movies, which I have always loved to watch. I love the genres of
adventure, fantasy, science fiction, and horror because they capture my
imagination the most. This has influenced my work to become playful and
humorous, and in some instances be intentionally “campy.” Although I
still wish to produce serious art exploring my more serious interests
such as the beauty I connect with in the natural world and the figure,
I would also like to extend my work into movie production and pursue an
imaginative and playful direction in my fine art as well.
