I create densely layered paintings inspired by the patinas of
metals; the tones and colors of rotting wood; the surfaces of eroded
stones.  I use a variety of materials to render snapshots of decay,
subtly adapting my process each time to create a unique and final
piece.  I employ a constantly evolving combination of mediums and
techniques.  By incorporating such materials as oil stick, encaustic,
and various resins, oils, and glues, I develop resonant surfaces, both
visual and tactile.  Spontaneous lines and glazes are consciously
edited later so as to create a cohesive image.  As a result, the
canvases are transformed into planes of oxidizing metals, or weathered
slabs of stones. The paintings are a delicate balance of material and
process, resulting in work that has a decayed beauty.  Seductive in
their painterly qualities, the works reveal a strong influence from
such artists as Tapies, Twombly, and Dubuffet.
