Barry Sparkman is a Miami based artist who makes nonobjective
paintings and prints.  He received a MFA in Painting and Drawing from
LSU in 1989.  His career as an artist includes an extensive list of
solo and group exhibitions at venues throughout the United States.  He
has received numerous awards, and his paintings are in an impressive
    array of public collections.

I have always made things.  My
earliest memories include drawing with a ballpoint pen on odd bits of
paper in church or in the back seat of a car.  This activity provided
an escape and opened a door to a new world that belonged exclusively to
me.  This introspective approach to the physical act of making art in
the solitude of the studio remains the focus of my current work. I
manipulate the formal elements of color, shape, line, and texture in an
attempt to evoke an emotional response or set a mood with my paintings
and prints. My intention is to impact the viewer’s senses in such a way
as to provide an escape from the literal and a path toward
    introspection.
