Gutbucket: Tibet in Comics
Friday, April 13, 7pm @ The Rubin Museum of Art
This concert complements the Museum’s current exhibition “Hero, Villain, Yeti Tibet in Comics.” Comic book storylines have drawn on Tibet’s cultural and religious traditions for more than sixty years, mixing reality with myths and long-held stereotypes. Featuring more than fifty comic books from around the world, the exhibition sheds light on global perceptions of Tibet as reflected in and informed by these diverse narratives.
Projections of the panels of the comic book The Magic Life of Milarepa by Eva van Dam will be accompanied by a live score by Brooklyn-based noise band Gutbucket.
Milarepa was the Severus Snape of Tibet whose turbulent home life drove him to the practice of the Dark Arts before he transformed his ways and became revered as Tibet’s mystic saint and the composer of over 1,000 songs about the Dharma.
Gutbucket is: Ty Citerman, guitar, Adam D Gold, drums, Eric Rockwin, bass, Ken Thomson, saxophone.
