Don Vernon

I really don’t know why I would be included in
this prestigious group of artists, as I came to the art field simply as
a means to earn a living.  My early interest in art was successfully
sublimated by either disinterest or ridicule and by the homogenization
of a traditional American education.  As I began to realize that I
excelled in nothing and had no goals, the chance meeting of a fellow
who had art training in ‘commercial art’ gave me at least a possible
way to earn an income in something that was regarded as "play" and that
came fairly easy to me.

After many years of
advertising agency work and the humiliation of corporate art
departments I have only now begun to understand what art is supposed to
be about and find that my ability to tap that creative well of
communication pretty well clogged.  So, I flail about, grabbing any
idea that presents itself that will allow me to present to the world at
large the absurdities and obvious misinformation presented to our
society by our duly elected officials and the power obsessed
politicians.
