Andy Weeks

I am currently working on a series of paintings of the views
(architectural structures, streets, signs, people, incidents) available
in the immediate vicinity of each subway stop along the 1 line from the
base of Manhattan to the end of the line in the Bronx.  The resulting
body of work will culminate in a portrait of the entire city of
Manhattan, systematically describing the architectural, social,
cultural, and economic diversity and disparity revealed through that
particular vein of transit.  though I work within a framework
inspiredby the conceptual systems of Sol Lewistt and Douglas Huebler,
each painting is the result of an effort to express meaning primarily
through formal aesthetics.
