With controlled gestural drips, Peter Wu makes abstract paintings that
on first approach appear like Rorschach tests under the influence of
hallucinogenics. Informed by his multi-media and video training, Wu’s
paintings are like calculated television static: brilliantly colored
paint pourings, run in rivulets over obsessive black ink backgrounds
which read alternately as butterfly wings, skulls or stereo-optic
nudes. But in the end – this cornucopia of references – from Black
Metal to Chinese calligraphy – is all in the mind’s eye.
