Joshua Weintraub’s paintings negotiate the anxious terrain between abstraction and figuration, between decipherability and obscurity. Through his work, Weintraub explores the relationship between painting, drawing, and writing, often using pencil and ink on his canvases to create a field of enigmatic and yet suggestive detritus. His work engages not only with formal aesthetic questions but also with the apprehension that arises from the search for satisfying "meanings" behind quotidian experience.
