I have always liked the video style of artists like Jean-Luc Godard and Aernout Mik. All the scenes seem to be as ordinary as those from the daily life, but tiny dramas lurk in the videos. Ilove this quality of videography, which I cannot describe but strongly feel. For me, life is so mysterious. People are used to it, but I always experience mysteriousness hidden in my daily life. It hides in many places: under a chair, on a table, in the movement of taking a sip of water, in a blink. The Talk series is about capturing the subtle emotions hidden in people’s mind in their daily life: germaphobia, bloodlust, and erotica. These emotions exhibit people’s boredom and depression. I magnify these emotions through videos, a bit of grotesque but within the realm of daily experience. Although the themes of the three videos are all about my bad hobbies and the imagery looks brutal, I try my best to deal with them with a soft, relaxing, and romantic tone that is normal but slightly disturbing. This series of work is not a narrative; it’s a performance with no reason. When I edited, I broke the chronological order of things, so viewers would not be able to follow the usual reading pattern based on time and plot, and instead, be able to experience the imagery in the most direct way.
