Charles Hinman was introduced to the New York art scene in 1964 in a show at the Sidney Janis Gallery titled SEVEN NEW ARTISTS. His work, which escaped the rectangle from the start, was noticed by Richard Feigen, and he joined Feigen’s gallery shortly thereafter. During the next half dozen years with Feigen, his canvasses became three-dimensional, and they have been distinguished by these shapes ever since.
