    Enter
into a new Renaissance. Here recognizable contemporary figures are
portrayed as Icons. Enter into my contemporary world of
“Sinner/Saint”.  My friends have posed and become the Saints whose
stories I  have wondered about in the art of the Italian Renaissance.
My hope is that contemporary portraiture will make the viewer feel at
ease, yet also lead to a wonderment or remembrance of the pictorial
images and symbols that have for centuries been associated with
religious teachings. I want my paintings, in this particular series, to
be a regeneration of these didactic Renaissance illustrations. I want
my images to conjure something within people. The flat backgrounds act
as a color plane and while visually limiting in regards to depth, they
contribute in creating a comfortable compositional home for the figure
to exist in. The resulting circumference and scope of this particular
project is equality. Where  everyone is “holy” and everyone is pure,
even if for just a moment.
