The only “erotic” art I like is that of the great artists who respond to the sensual nature of their model, rather than trying to create “sexy images.” The artists I look to are Schiele, Bellmer, Rodin, Modigliani, and even Picasso. Much of the “eroticism” in my work is created either by the chemistry between me and my model, or the abstract sensual shapes that are found in the female body. It is often that a whole drawing will be driven by the swelling shape of a breast, or the play of light on shoulders or a belly. Best of all, a drawing can be informed and charged by a mysterious female glance from the model—I can be totally seduced as an artist, by a model’s eyes or mouth, much more than by a superb body. | ![]() |

I have worked with a few ladies who absolutely brimmed over with an intense sensuality. How wonderful they are as models! They can be dressed or naked, and the magical chemistry is still there. With a fine sensual woman like that there is no need to rely on the tired erotic clichés of soft porn photography. The only erotic art I find worth considering is that which evolves from the wonderful intimate relationship between an artist and his current seductive muse.
I do feel that the sensual nature of the model should be reflected in the mark making and the surface quality of the drawing itself and I have always worked with that in mind!
