    What: Test, a new private non-for-profit contemporary art center–a 30,000 square foot industrial building for new exhibitions, new projects, new collaborations and a new contemporary art collection.

    In the summer of 2007, Portuguese artist Joao Simoes was invited to propose an idea for an industrial building, at LX factory creative cluster, in the heart of Alcântara district, Lisbon. His proposal for the project is published in this text.

    What: Test, a new private non-for-profit contemporary art center–a 30,000 square foot industrial building for new exhibitions, new projects, new collaborations and a new contemporary art collection.

    Where: Lisbon, Portugal. Latitude: 38°42’7.16" N/Longitude: 9°10’43.09" W.

    Why: to generate and display forthcoming art.

    When: the first meeting happens on 28–29 February 2008; following the meeting, Test opens in the summer.

    How: by inviting curators and artists to develop new projects at Test, with a carte blanche, networks and collaborations are established, also with other art centers around the world; also by publishing, archiving, documenting, and showing.

    Who: the first guest curators and artists invited to develop new projects at Test are: Amy Granat, Arfus Greenwood, Ana Cardoso, Alexandre Estrela, Emily Sundblad, Henry Flynt, Joao Simoes, Jutta Koether, Mathieu Copeland, Mai Abu ElDahab, and Stuart Bailey/David Reinfurt (dexter sinister).

    On February 28 and 29, 2008 the first work meeting defines and programs new projects for Test.

    On the last day of the meeting, Test’s doors open to the public with sound performances by Jutta Koether, Amy Granat/Emily Sundblad, the Flynts (Elizabeth and Henry Flynt), films by Amy Granat/Emily Sundblad, a screening of Tell Me by Guy de Cointet, a talk by Henry Flynt, and the launch of monolog #0, Test’s publishing tool, as the first meeting’s output.
