My collage work has been linked to my work as a designer. Its influence comes from Japanese magna art, comic books, high fashion, photography and graphic art. For a long time, collage has allowed me to tell stories in a very straightforward way that has a bit of an edge to it, almost political commentary. Since 2D graphic collage allows you the freedom and flexibility to combine different mediums, cutting and pasting, I thought it would be interesting to actually take the production methods and apply them conceptually to the work I was making. Most of my work deals with power be that through sex, violence, virtual power or through the forces of nature. | ![]() |

I’ve also been interested in metamorphosis and the combination of the virtual world and the real world.
Photography
These images document the personal and intimate experiences I have had over the course of ten years depicting relationships, nature and the human condition. The type of photography that I have been interested in demonstrates the complex emotional and dramatic states of mind that are hidden from sight. They enable the viewer to look under the exterior surface of my subjects and identify their particular complacency within the framework of the American ideology.
This is not an attempt to identify the complexities, which exist in our society but rather isolate that which enables Americans to remain wholly focused on their microcosmic community of everyday life and existence.
With minimal choreography and direction, I focus on what triggers the connections my subjects display in their everyday spaces and situations—for example; bedrooms, backyards, kitchens and grocery stores. This work generates the focal point in relation to the broader context that all of my subjects share.
I recognize that their geographic, socio-economic and political contexts are entirely unique, but the suggested narrative of isolation is the bridge linking the narrative with respect to my young subjects. This identifies their disassociation to their feelings in the world in which they live. These solitary moments, the times where we might feel most out of place in the world is an emotional experience that we all share; despite where we come from, it is something that binds us all and makes us human.
